Hello my friends! I’m really xcited to share this project with you…You know when you have an idea that looks Awesome in your head, but could look completely terrible when it comes together in real life? Well, this was one of those projects. I had a vision of a super cool, rustic earring organizer and just said a prayer and crossed all of my fingers that it would turn out…It turned out even better than I envisioned!!!! Yay!!! I’ll slow down on all of my excitement and show you how I created it with the help of Elmers New Mini Glue Gun with less mess glue sticks. I’ve used many different glue guns in my day and burnt many fingers. Guess what?! I did not burn one finger! And…I did not have a single spiderweb to clean up after using almost all of the glue sticks featured in this picture. Plus, the glue gun itself never felt hot to the touch…Don’t believe me? Just watch…
First, I started by painting a frame I purchased at a craft store. I was going to make my own, but when I found this one for less than $10, it was a no-brainer! I used a cream chalk paint, but any paint you like will work perfectly. It will eventually be covered anyway.
I used a sanding block to sand the frame in hopes it would help the glue adhere better. The edges got a little heavier distressing treatment because I thought you might be able to see them when the frame was hanging on a wall.
Now for the fun part…Adding bark (Yes, you read that right! Bark!) I walked around our land looking for the perfect pieces- Dry with a little coloring. We have a few dead trees on our property, so it was fairly easy to find. It’s very important to make sure the pieces are dry, though, or the glue might not stick.
I placed each piece how I liked it, then went to town gluing the pieces on. I used A LOT of glue! I may not have needed to use so much, but I wanted to make sure it would stay. Some of the pieces of bark were curved a bit, so I either used extra glue or layered the pieces of bark on top of each other. There’s no wrong way of doing it…It will look Awesome when it comes together!
It was SO hard to capture a shot of the stringiness or cobweb type threads glue guns typically cast off…because there were none! I think I picked three off of my entire project. Here is an example of one I had to create to show you. It’s so tiny and super fine. You can find these glue guns and glue sticks in select Michael’s Craft Stores.
Then, I hung it on the wall in my bedroom, added some of my favorite everyday earrings, and sat back and admired…
It fits in perfectly with the feel of our room…a mismatch of old, new and rustic…Don’t you think it ties in great with my Necklace Organizer?
Hope you’re having a day full of surprises…
