Today I’m excited to share a fun Holiday project inspired by one of my favorite Holiday songs. And…since I never shared a Christmas Home Tour, you’ll get a peek at my mantel. After you see my project, you’ll have to check out the nine other darling projects created by some of my super talented friends… There’s no place like home, for the holidays…don’t you agree?
I really wanted to create a sign for my mantel that could stay up beyond Christmas. The chalkboard can easily be removed and replaced with a different piece of art. I already have something in mind.
Let’s get started…I picked up a piece of 24 x 24 plywood and painted it first with a coat of light gray paint, followed by a coat of cream paint.
Then I created a stencil using my Cricut machine, attached it with painters tape, and painted in the lines using a stencil brush. The key to keep the paint from bleeding under the paper is to use a little bit of paint. You can always add more, but it’s much harder to take it away. The paint is a dark charcoal, although it looks kind of navy in some of the photos. Fonts used are Channel for the cursive and Cricut Classic for HOME.
And here’s how it turned out…I happen to have this smaller black chalkboard that I wrote “for the holidays” in my own handwriting with a piece of chalk. You could certainly add the rest of the verse from the song right onto the board, though. I wanted a layered look on the mantel…
