Hello Friends!
I just got back from a Three Day Tour of the state of Kansas…I learned so much and cannot wait to share all about it. You may have seen my sneak peeks on Instagram and Facebook already. Don’t worry- I have lots more to share!
Now, it’s back to real life. The next couple weeks are fun ones around our house. With Halloween and parties and dressing up and fall activities…I LOVE this time of year.
My boys love to help me in the kitchen! With so many fall activities, we always need to take a treat. Today, I’m going to share with you one of my favorite quick and easy treats to make with my boys. I typically make these at Christmas, but this cute twist makes them perfect for Halloween thanks to the fun supplies I found at JoAnn Fabric and Crafts! #DIY4Halloween
Perfect for little hands because they can measure scooping and pouring and stirring.
Here’s what you’ll need…
I gather all the ingredients and have it all set out on the counter for my little helpers. Then, they get to scoop each dry ingredient and pour them into a large bowl. 1 1/2 cups of each made a half batch. Double for a large crowd or class party.
This recipe can be made with your choice of ingredients. I chose these because they resembled bones and I wanted to stick with the Mummy theme.
Melt 1 lb. Almond bark in the microwave. I melt it for 1 min. at 50%, then at 30 sec. intervals until melted. Almond bark and any other chocolate can be tricky in the microwave. It may look like it is melted, when it’s really not. It often holds its shape until stirred. So, stir after each interval. You don’t want burnt chocolate!
When Almond bark is melted, add a little vegetable oil (about a 1/2 Tbsp.) to keep it from hardening too quickly. Drizzle over dry ingredients and stir to cover.
Set scoopfuls of the mixture on wax paper to set. Meanwhile, while the treats set up…
Here’s the fun part…I found all of these festive Halloween supplies at JoAnn Fabric and Crafts and thought they would be perfect for turning my plain munch mix into a Mummy Munch Mix!
So fun, right! Perfectly Mummy! I melted half of the bag of candy melts in a small microwave safe bowl. This time, I started with 30 second intervals because I was afraid 1 minute would burn the small amount of chocolate. When the chocolate was melted, I filled the candy hands mold and added a pretzel stick to make it a candy-pop.
After a few minutes in the fridge, they were set. I popped them out and carefully shaved off any excess chocolate.
Place a scoop of munch mix in a mummy themed cupcake liner with a couple candy eyes and a chocolate hand…
If you don’t have time to add the hands, the munch mix is just as cute and fun without! What kid wouldn’t love this treat at a party?! Mine sure love it and had a blast helping me make it.
