Hello All!
Are you ready for a big dose of Awesomeness from the #CreativeBuzz Team? Because that’s what you are about to get! This month, we were all challenged to complete a project with the theme Numbers…Perfect for this time of year with everyone thinking about (or trying not to think about) heading back to school.
Do you have pieces of furniture that are in desparate need of a makeover? Well, me too. Some pieces I just cannot seem to part with because they evoke too many memories.
Take this sweet little telephone table. Once upon a time, this was the actual table my grandparents had sitting under their telephone (which hung on the wall with a cord) chock full of phone and address books and little notes my grandma would make while sitting there on the phone. I remember spending hours sitting there drawing and writing notes and talking on the phone…because back then you had to stay in one place or go just as far as the curly cord would stretch.
So when my sister no longer wanted this piece, I inherited it. Now, my boys love it just as much as I did as a child…
And here’s how I transformed it…I let my six-year old have the paintbrush…
He loved this for a bit, then gave the paintbrush back to me.
I started by giving it a good cleaning and sanding any rough spots.
Then, I painted it with 2-3 coats of DecoArt Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in Lace. I say 2-3 coats because I applied 2 coats in some areas and 3 coats in others. The spots I knew I wouldn’t be sanding much I painted 3 coats. The areas I knew I would be sanding only received 2 coats because I didn’t want it ti be a challenge to sand through so many coats of paint.
My oldest, August, uses this desk everyday after school and pretty much claims it as his own. He wanted me to paint it red since that is his favorite color. We compromised and I painted the inside with DecoArt Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in Rouge. It took two coats to get the look I wanted.
Now…for the Numbers part of the project. Using the Americana Decor Olde World Numbers Stencil and Chalky Finish Paint in Primitive, I randomly stenciled numbers all over the tabletop.
I get lots of looks…Someone’s always wondering what I’m working on…
After it had all dried, I applied two coats of Americana Decor Creme Wax with a soft cloth. And…it’s finished!
With the desk looking so cute, I couldn’t leave the seat in the condition it was in. So I gave it a simple makeover by covering it with a grey and cream stripe fabric.
I am so thrilled with how it turned out and even more excited when I saw my boys reaction to their new desk. Now, we have to take turns using it…Who knew it would be such a big hit!

This seriously is such a great project!! I can’t even believe the transformation you did with it. Your son it going to love sitting there doing his school work. I think it’s super cute that he wanted to help give it a makeover, I think he lasted as long as my son would have.
Great makeover. It works great as a kid’s desk! I’m pinning it!
