Do your kiddos love to read?  Mine too.  We have books all over the house, but the one space lacking in book storage is right next to the boys bed.  I’ve been wanting to build small book bins for ages, but never got around to it.  Until today… how-to-make-monogrammed-book-bins-OneKriegerChick.com When I was asked to come up with a craft with the theme “Personalize It” for the Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores Big Bling Campaign, I knew I wanted to create something special for the boys…But What?

Off to Jo-Ann I went…I knew I would find inspiration walking the aisles…

What did I spot?  These fun little CD Crates…Perfect for Book Bins! Book Bin Supplies But how to personalize them…With the boys initials, of course!  Yay…These are going to be perfect and the boys will love them!

Ok…Let’s get to making these…The boys were at Nana and Papa’s overnight, so I wanted their new Book Bins to be a surprise when they got home.

First, they got a coat of Minwax Dark Walnut stain.  See my easy staining tutorial here.

Stained CD Crates Once that dried, I painted all of the insides and the initials with Folk Art Home Decor Chalk Paint in Parisian Grey.

CD Crates make the perfect sized book bins I distressed the letters with a light sanding using a sanding block.

Chalk painted and distressed letters Adding the initials to the fronts of the bins with a hot glue gun finished them off…

Make your own bedside book bin I hung them on the wall next to the boys bunk beds and filled them with their favorite books…They will be so excited when they get home!

They would also be darling sitting on the desk in our new classroom…I may have to make a couple more! A book storage bin from a CD crate- what a great idea!

So…As some of you know, I live in a house of boys.  The Big Bling Campaign is specifically geared towards Tween girls, which I will never have.  If I were to create book bins for tween girls, I would change up the color scheme to grey and hot pink or turquoise.  Maybe spray it with glitter spray paint.  Add a curvy initial…Why not coat the initial in stick-on rhinestones.  Bring on the Bling!

Looking for even more inspiration to Personalize Items for you or your home?  Make sure to check out The Big Bling on the Jo-Ann website.  So many fun ideas!  Also, Jo-Ann is hosting a weekly Instagram contest where you have the chance to win a $200 gift card to shop your heart out at Jo-Ann…Yay!  Simply post a project with #thebigbling hashtag of the weekly theme and you’ll be entered to win.

What would you use these bins for?

Looks like they could also be used for storage of either a tape or CD? How do you have them attached to your child’s wall?

They are labeled CD crates at Jo-Ann and there is even a longer version. We just screwed them into a stud in the wall…nothing fancy. My boys are boys, though, so they had to be sturdy. So far, so good!
      Happy Day!
