In the midst of all the hustle and bustle of preparing for Christmas, often we need an easy last minute gift idea…or, at least, I do!
Or if you are like me, you have all these lofty plans to finish umpteen homemade gifts before Christmas…and Christmas kind of sneaks up…
Today, I am going to share a Two-in-One gift…
A gift they can keep…
And a yummy gift they can enjoy. right. then!
So simple. So Yummy. I LOVE gifts like these…Who wouldn’t like a delicious homemade dinner?
How I did it…
All I did was cut out a cute little image out of vinyl with my Cricut and adhered it to these Awesome oversized red mugs I picked up at the Dollar Tree. Easy and inexpensive! If you do not have access to a vinyl cutting machine, there are so many cool vinyl chalkboard labels in the craft stores that would work perfectly.
Then, I made a double batch of our Family Favorite Steak Soup and Cake Cornbread Muffins. A batch for us and a batch to share.

- 2 lbs. sirloin, cut into 1 in. pieces (or smaller)
- ½ tsp. freshly ground pepper
- 2-3 Tbsp. unsalted butter
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 4 medium carrots, thinly sliced
- 4 stalks celery with leaves, thinly sliced
- 3 potatoes, cubed
- 3 Tbsp. all purpose flour
- 8 c. beef broth
- 1 (16 oz.) pkg. frozen corn, thawed
- 2 c. frozen petite peas, thawed
- Heat 1 Tbsp butter in large skillet over med-high heat. Add meat and brown on all sides.
- Melt 1 Tbsp. butter over med-high heat in large dutch oven or stock pot. Add onions, carrots, celery and potatoes and sauté until onions are fragrant and vegetables begin to soften, about 5 min.
- Stir in flour and cook veggies for another 2-3 min. Gradually stir in the broth and heat, stirring until mixture comes to a boil.
- Cover and cook on low until meat and potatoes are tender. Remove lid and stir in corn and peas.
- Cover and cook for an additional 30 minutes before serving. Just long enough to heat up the peas and corn.
- - Goes well with cornbread muffins as a side.
- - Lesser expensive cuts of meat work too.
- - This serves our family of 5 two meals. I freeze half for another day.
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 1 box cornbread mix
- ½ cup oil
- 2/3 cup water
- 2/3 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- Mix together with electric mixer until combined.
- Pour into greased 13x9 pan or muffin tin.
- Bake according to cake mix directions.
- -I like to sprinkle crystal sugar on the top before baking…Makes the crust so yummy!
- -Goes great with Family Favorite Steak Soup.
