Hello Friends!
Are you decorated for Christmas yet? I have a hard time getting into the Christmas Spirit until after Thanksgiving.
But…That doesn’t mean I haven’t been working ahead on a few projects…Like this fun {and oh, so easy} colored chalkboard sign…
It’s been unseasonably cold here the past couple days…even our Chicken’s eggs froze one morning and I had to pry open the coop because it was frozen shut!
So…the saying is quite fitting…
And here’s how I created it…
First, I found a scrap piece of bead board. I’m guilty of hoarding small pieces of wood that may be useful for signs and such. Good thing we have a barn!
I painted a few coats of red paint until it had the rich red color I was looking for. If you have red spray paint, by all means…Use that!
Once the red paint was dry, I painted a coat of clear chalkboard coating. I let that coat dry, then applied another coat in the opposite direction as the first coat. I then let that set overnight. The direction on the paint say twenty-four hours.
Then, I primed the chalkboard by rubbing a piece of chalk all over it in both directions, wiping off the excess chalk dust.
And there you have a Colored Chalkboard! Easy, huh!
Now for the fun writing…
Whenever I create Chalkboard Art, I start by writing out my saying in plain old chalk. Then I go over it with a chalk pen. If there is too much real chalk peeking around my chalk pen lines, I just lightly wipe it off.
Fun, right! And red is such a great color for a changeable sign because it can be used for so many holidays…Valentine’s, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Back to School and birthdays!
I might even keep this one up through the winter!
