Weekly Meal Plan {some new changes}

Good Morning!

Hope you all are enjoying the weekend.  It is beautiful here…perfect Fall weather. This morning, I woke up to a dense fog that disappeared as the sun rose…I can still see the sparkles of dew on the grass.  Great inspiration for Fall decorating!  I’m hoping to finish my outdoor decor today and take advantage of the day.  Fall always seems to go so quickly!

Over the past few weeks, creating a weekly menu has not been working as well as when I first started meal planning.  I spend a lot of time each week working on it and we often do not eat what’s on the menu.  It’s frustrating to waste the time planning and knowing I have been spending money on groceries that often go to waste.  Ugh!

So…I have decided to try something new.  I am creating a monthly menu plan.  This way, I only sit down and plan once per month.  To make it even easier on myself, I created a file folder with print-outs of all of our favorite recipes.  This way, I have the recipes right at hand when I prepare dinner.

To give each week some variety, I plan around these meal themes: Soup/Chili, Mexican, Crock-pot, Noodle dish and New Recipe.  I love reading cookbooks and Food magazines, so I am always trying out new recipes.  Many of the recipes for this month came out of a Taste of Home Healthy Cooking magazine.

I also try not to have the same meat two nights in a row.  Honestly, I could easily skip the meat most evenings…Mr. KriegerChick thinks a meal isn’t complete without meat and the boys take after him.

I am only planning four meals each week.  Then, if Mr. KriegerChick happens to work late, he is not missing out on family dinner.  I can prepare that meal another night and make something kid pleasing like breakfast for dinner. We typically eat leftovers one evening as well.  Often, Friday or Saturday is Pizza night or we eat dinner out.

So…Here’s what I came up with:

October 2013 Monthly Menu {Onekriegerchick.com}

Feel free to print out your own copy…{Printable Version: Monthly Menu October 2013}

 Bonus…It’s healthy!  I’m trying to eat healthier and increase the veggies my family eats.  We have no problem eating fruit, but the boys have developed an adversion to veggies…I’m getting sneaky!

I plan to share a recipe each week from this menu…Many of these are new to me, so I want to try them out first!

Hope this helps to inspire you in your Menu Creating adventures!
