Hello friends! Hope you had a lovely long weekend! Luckily my boys took awesome naps, so I had a chance to finally play catch up on some blog posting. I have been busy working on projects around the Krieger house and have lots to share in the coming weeks…
To start it off, I am going to share one of the projects that most needed an update…and I am loving it!
Just wait till you see what they looked like “BEFORE”…
This is the “BEFORE” shot…They were “OK”…They looked great a couple years ago when I first recovered them. But three boys climbing and standing and spilling on them took a toll and there was no amount of cleaning that was going to make them look good again.
I just hadn’t found the right fabric…
Until…my mom called me from Hobby Lobby one day asking if I had seen their selection of Laminated fabric…
LAMINATED fabric…Duh! That would be PERFECT!!
So, off I went to Hobby Lobby…and found this fun, bright {boy-proof} fabric! {BONUS- it looks awesome with my new rugs}
And here’s how I did it…
Remove existing cushion…{don’t mind the fact that I never bothered to trim the excess fabric…oops!}
Remove the existing fabric cover.
Use the existing cover as a pattern. Lay existing fabric on new fabric and trace with a piece of chalk. Make sure to indicate the front or back. Also, if you have a more precise pattern, you’ll have to watch the alignment more carefully. I lucked out with such a random pattern!
Cut out your fabric.
Line up the new cover with the existing cushion and pin into place. I did opposite sides first, then corners. The corners can be tricky, so just work with them a bit until you like the look.
Once the cover is pinned into place, use a staple gun to adhere it permanently. Work with opposite sides, pulling it taught as you go and finishing with the corners.
Reattach the cushion to the chair…and you have a fresh new {BOY-Proof} barstool! I cannot express in words how much I love these new cushions! Thank you, thank you to whoever invented laminated fabric!

Laminated fabric is a great idea! For my son, we don’t use a high chair, but one of those booster seats that strap to any chair. Let me tell you, the fabric under his seat is trashed! This would be perfect for him!
It would be perfect! It has been sooo easy to clean up. It hasn’t stained even with the light background and so far every spill has wiped right off. Thanks so much for stopping by…Have a great night!

oh! this is a good idea, I have 2 year old boy and this one would last!
thank you for sharing!
So far…the fabric is wearing very well and we have had our share of spills!
Thanks for visiting! Have a Happy Day!

Oh my gosh! I NEED to do this!
I know…right! Where has this fabric been the last few years since boys entered our lives!

Brilliant! I love the pattern of the fabric and with a teenage stepson and two dogs I’m always looking for ways to keep things clean.
Oh, it has been amazingly easy to keep clean…You’ll love it!
Thanks for visiting! Have a Happy Day!

What a gorgeous pattern you chose! I need to do the same with out kitchen benches. Boy proof, that’s funny! (but very very true, I have a three year old one of those)
I’m loving them and plan to do my bench cushion too. The fabric is actually really light, so it should be easy to sew. I’d love to see yours when it’s done.
Thanks for visiting! Have a Happy Day!

Those are SO cute! I love the fabric and what a great idea to use laminated fabric. Does it feel funky though when you sit on it for long?
So funny…That is my most asked question! The fabric is surprisingly lightweight, not like a plastic tablecloth or oilcloth. It feels like regular fabric and doesn’t stick to my legs. Super easy to work with too.
Thanks for stopping by!

I LOVE this! I recovered my chairs last November and my girls have already destroyed them with food and such. Even with using Scotch guard…boo! How comfortable or uncomfortable is the laminated fabric to sit on? I’m imagining sticking to is when I go to get up and it is hot. I’ve never noticed it there either. Thanks for the idea. Thanks so much for linking up at the Real Family Fun link party! Hope to see you next week.

Thanks so much! We are loving them too…They feel just like a lighter weight fabric but with a coating. They haven’t been uncomfortable at all and I worried my legs would stick! Hobby Lobby had a few different patterns and the price was great…I bought the fabric on sale and was able to do both covers for under $12!
Have a Happy Day!

Can you stitch this stuf like regular fabric? I have some seat pillow-like cushions for my dining room chairs that my boys have trashed. I was them periodically but now they’re misshapen because of the washing. If I could get some new ones and make like a pillow case for them with this fabric, it would be great!
I definitely think you could stitch this fabric. It is similar to a cotton but it has the laminated coating. It is holding up really well, though. It’s not thick like an oilcloth, so it would be fairly easy to work with. I’m making a pillow for our bench…I’ll let you know how it goes.
So glad you stopped by!

Do you think I could cover my sofa in it?? LOL! I have boys too and they are messy! My barstools are wood, thank goodness. This is so clever! Thanks so much for sharing at our party!
