{Please} Remove Your Shoes

Happy Monday Friends!  Our weekend was full {of fun stuff}…Hope yours was too!  I managed to squeeze a little crafting in while the boys took extra long naps on Sunday.  Yeah!  Laundry is caught up too…Double Yeah!

Just thought I would start off the week with a cute little DIY “Please Remove Your Shoes” frame I have had almost finished for way too long.

I admit, I was never a stickler on guests removing their shoes to come into my home.  That was until we moved, installed really dark wood floors that show every tiny fleck of dust and dirt And my youngest started crawling/picking up every teensy tiny thing off the floor.  Life with 3 little boys is messy enough…I could sweep ALL day…Ugh!  When I saw this sign, I knew I had to create one of my own.

So…How did I make it?

1. First, I prepped the frame: I started with a plain smooth frame.  Then I traced it onto the back of a piece of patterned scrapbook paper and cut it out.  I then painted the back and sides of the frame a color that coordinated with my paper and allowed the  paint to dry.

2. I adhered the paper to the frame with mod-podge and allowed it to dry.  I then applied a coat of mod-podge to the top of the scrapbook paper.  (Make sure to go in the same direction with your brush. Ex. up and down)  I used one of those inexpensive black foam brushes.  Allow that coat to dry, then apply another coat of mod-podge going in the opposite direction with your brush.  Ex. side to side.  This gives it the look of canvas. (And will help hide any wrinkles in the paper.)

3. If desired…When last coat of mod-podge dries, distress the edges of your papered frame with a little acrylic paint or pigment ink.

4. Adhere saying of your choice.  I cut mine out of vinyl on my Cricut machine.  Stickers would work great too.

5. Embellish with stickers, buttons, etc.

6. Insert a photo or monogram and you have a fun frame to display in your home!  I cut the polka-dotted paper to fit the frame, mounted my boys cute little legs on a coordinating paper and adhered it inside the frame.

Here’s how I have it displayed in the Mudroom…just before you enter the kitchen.

All supplies used on this frame are from Close to my Heart and can be purchased through me…Frame is only $8.95!  So many possibilities: Frame a monogram, pictures of your kiddos {with their name on the frame} or a fun quote.  They look cute on the wall, displayed on your mantle or simply propped on an easel.
